“Unlike many coaches and CrossFiter’s, I was not a high school or college athlete. In fact, until I discovered CrossFit my exercise experience was mostly limited to the gym, where I began weight training at age 18. By 19, I had my first personal training certication and job at Kirkwood Fitness Center in Wilmington, DE. Throughout the years I enjoyed regular weight training and various yoga disciplines, but I always shied away from “cardiovascular” exercise. That is, until my first CrossFit WOD (Cindy) exposed my weakness! Although it was tough, the combination of strength and stamina intuitively appealed to my body and brain. For the first time, what I was doing felt like fitness; not just another workout. I wanted more!
Since I began following CrossFit’s training and nutrition model, I have lost (and maintained) over 10 pounds, gained muscle, and dropped 2 clothing sizes. More importantly, I’ve continued to make cardiovascular gains without compromising strength. As a result, I have more stamina and an increased confidence in my physical abilities, which have led me to “regularly learn and play new sports”, as well as compete in local athletic events. I am proof that, regardless of your background, it is never too late to tap into your inner athlete. If you have the desire, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and make changes, CrossFit can and will improve your quality of life.”
